Teeth Whitening &

Tooh Gem Care

Pre Appointment Tooth Gem & Teeth Whitening Care

Should I brush my teeth before a teeth whitening or tooth gem appointment?

Yes, you should come to your appointment with freshly brushed and flossed teeth. This will help to ensure we have a clean and ideal canvas to work with for best results.

Make sure you have not had a dental cleaning in the past 7 days

During a dental cleaning the scaler used to clean your teeth can cause micro incisions in the gums. Doing teeth whitening directly after this can cause unnecessary sensitivity that we want to avoid. Dhesthetics like to guarantee and minimal to zero sensitivity service, so waiting a week after a dental cleaning will help to ensure that.

Post Appointment Tooth Gem & Teeth Whitening Care

Do not brush your teeth or use mouthwash directly after getting your teeth whitened or a tooth gem

You should wait 12-24 hours after teeth whitening or tooth gem application to avoid sensitivity or premature loss of the gem. Brushing your teeth too soon after a treatment will be abrasive on the teeth and gums, and mouthwash could temporarily stain the teeth while they’re still porous.

Be sure to rinse after eating or drinking for the next 24 hours

During the teeth whitening process we use an LED light to open the tubules of the teeth (pores). They can remain open for up to 24 hours after your whitening appointment, so rinsing after eating and drinking is important to avoid premature staining.

How long should you wait to drink coffee or tea after teeth whitening?

ou should wait 24-48 hours after whitening to drink tea or coffee. The longer the better as tea and coffee are main culprits in enamel staining. It is recommended as best practice to always consume staining liquids through a straw and brush or rinse after finishing the drink.

Other things to take into consideration after receiving teeth whitening or a tooth gem:

  • The product used will stay active in the pores of the teeth for up to 24 hours after the procedure, meaning that your teeth could progress another 1-2 shades brighter

  • If sensitivity occurs it will diminish within 23 hours

  • Avoid staining foods and drinks such as pasta sauce, red wine, coffee, etc.

  • Drink through a straw whenever possible
