Teeth Whitening

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is the process of brightening the colour of the teeth by using a specially formulated gel paired with an LED light. Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you, and this fast and easy process can help blow that first impression out of the water.

How long does teeth whitening last?

Teeth whitening results can last anywhere from 2 to 6 months. Longevity of results is dependent on the client's lifestyle and oral hygiene. Avoidance of staining foods and drinks, as well as smoking, can lengthen the lasting results along with excellent oral hygiene.

How often should you get your teeth whitened?

Teeth whitening can be done as often as needed to maintain results, however, it is recommended to wait a minimum of 4 weeks in between sessions to keep the teeth safe. How often a client gets their teeth whitened will depend on the enamel structure of the teeth and the longevity of their results.

How long does teeth whitening take?

The teeth whitening process takes approximately 45 to 75 minutes. The length of the appointment will depend on how many rounds are needed to achieve maximum results. Extra time is also booked for filling out forms, doing a thorough consultation, explaining post treatment care and booking follow up appointments.

What is the process of teeth whitening?

The teeth whitening process is simple and pain-free. We start by cleansing the teeth and then applying the cheek retractor to expose the teeth and protect soft tissue. The blue LED light is then used to dry the teeth out so that the whitening gel can penetrate the pores in the teeth. Vitamin E is applied to the gums and soft tissue for protection and the gel is applied to the teeth which is then activated by the LED light for 15 minutes. This process is then repeated 2 to 4 times for optimal results.

Does getting your teeth whitened hurt?

Getting your teeth whitened should not hurt. We use a formula that is gentle but effective, meaning no pain should be experienced during the whitening process. Depending on the clients sensitivity, an even gentler formula can be used to alleviate any sensitivity issues during the session.

How much does teeth whitening cost?

Teeth whitening at dhesthetics is $150 plus tax. A complimentary aftercare kit is included for all new teeth whitening clients.

How many teeth whitening sessions do I need?

Most clients only need one teeth whitening session to achieve desirable results. Results can vary from client to client. This is based on enamel type, extent of staining, and client expectations. Multiple sessions can be completed if needed to reach desired results.

Is teeth whitening bad for your teeth?

No. In moderation, teeth whitening is not bad for your teeth. Whitening your teeth is not harmful to the enamel unless performed too frequently. Teeth whitening can be done every 4 to 12 weeks at most.

Can you whiten veneers, caps or fillings?

Yes. Veneers, caps and fillings can be whitened the same as natural teeth. With this being said, there are some limitations to how they are whitened. Dental restorations collect stains the same way natural teeth do. Veneers, caps and fillings are colour matched to the clients teeth when installed, meaning that they can only be whitened to their originally installed colour.

Can I smoke after getting my teeth whitened?

Smoking should be avoided for at least 24 hours after getting your teeth whitened. Smoking causes staining and during the first 24 hours the pores in the teeth remain open from LED exposure, making them more susceptible to staining. If smoking is necessary in the 24 hours following whitening, it is recommended to brush and rinse the teeth afterwards.

Can I drink coffee or tea after getting my teeth whitened?

Coffee and tea should be avoided for 24 hours after getting your teeth whitened. This is because the pores in the teeth remain open from the exposure to LED light, making the teeth more susceptible to staining. After the 48 hour waiting period, you can drink tea and coffee again, but it is recommended to rinse afterwards to avoid premature staining.
